Owen Sound, Ont. – The Owen Sound Attack completed the back half of their home-and-home opening weekend series with the Kitchener Rangers on Saturday night at the Bayshore.  After taking the first game in Kitchener, the Rangers evened the season series spoiling the Attack’s home opener 4-1.   Tanner Lam led all goal scorers with two, while Avry Anstis, Ryder Robertson all had goals for the Rangers, while Pierce Mbuyi scored his second of the year for the Attack and Ryerson Leenders made 28 saves.

The first period started quietly with Ryder Roberson of the Kitchener Rangers scoring the lone goal for either team to start the game. Both team’s goalies fought hard to defend their crease with thirteen and eight saves made respectively between Ryerson Leenders and Jason Schaubel. 

Both teams came out hungry in the second period, while Kitchener scored first the Attack put themselves within one to end the period. Tanner Lam netted the first of the period for Kitchener, but Captain Pierce Mbuyi cut the Ranger lead in half with under 3 minutes left in the second period. 

The third period started slow as neither team could get past the goal line, with just under three minutes and the Attack being down by one, an extra man was put on the ice in exchange for an empty net. However, Kitchener was able to monopolize on the Attack’s empty net with Lam scoring his second of the game and Avry Anstis getting his first. 

Leenders faced a total of 30 shots stopping an impressive 28 of them, making him tonight’s first star. Schaubel saved 17 of the 18 shots he faced tonight, landing him his team’s first win of the season. 

Next Up
