Three years worth of research has gone into creating a commemorative jersey to the celebrate the 1927 Owen Sound Greys Memorial Cup Championship. There are two version of this years commemorative jerseys a primary cream coloured version and a primarily black coloured version. These two designs may differ in colour, however share a number of carefully designed elements. We hope you enjoy learning up how we designed this years jersey below.

COLOURS & DESIGNThe 1927 Commemorative jersey features traditional Owen Sound Greys colours; orange and black, with cream added for contrast and as an amage to the heritage era. After looking through countless black and white photo’s we determined that the 1927 jersey had three stripes going through the middle of the jersey, behind the traditional Greys script logo. As a result, we included an updated version of this striping on both designs, with a large cream coloured stripe bordered by two thinner orange stripes at the top and bottom. This striping was continued on to the arms similar to the design from 1927. Similar to our commemorative jersey for the 1924 Grey’s, the word’s 1927 Memorial Cup Champion Owen Sound Greys appears in the inside collar of this years edition as a reminder to our current players of what they are honouring a previous Canadian Champion and what can be accomplished every time they wear the jersey. |
THE LOGOWhile it was determined that in all the pictures that could be found the teams moniker was a simple Greys word in orange written in script, the design team also noticed a common theme on many of the pictures of different player jerseys and that was shamrocks. Unfortunately, we have not been able to determine the reasoning for the shamrocks appearing on the jerseys, but the design team felt it was important to display this in some way within the design, and as such it was decided to have the Greys word mark would sit prominently on top of a black circle with a cream centre to provide it with the best opportunity to stand out. Inside of the black circle the team added the shamrocks in orange to keep with the team colours and included the City name and team nickname to bring the whole design full circle. |

THE SHOULDER PATCHOnce again, similar to the 1924 Commemorative jersey the design team wanted to ensure the names of all the players and coaching staff had a place on the jersey and this was done through a shoulder patch that lists all of their names. This also provides the current players wearing the jerseys with a second position that they could look to for motivation as we as to honour the team that lifted the Memorial Cup in 1927. |
