Rangers 4 – Attack 1
Our Owen Sound Attack travelled to Kitchener Friday night. The fourth game of six between the two hockey clubs this regular season. The Rangers had won two of those first three.
Jordan Binnington started in goal for his Attack. Franky Palazzese for the Rangers. The Attack were able to dress 17 skaters. One under the limit.
Our Attack opened the scoring when Daniel Catenacci passed from down low in the Ranger end to Brayden Rose at the right point. Rose’s shot was deflected/slowed by Gemel Smith. “Cat” jumped on it for his 20th of the season at 12:54 of period one.
Four minutes later, Zach Lorentz finished a 2-on-1 with Andrew Crescenzi. The shot trickled through Binnington and left an easy tap-in for Lorentz. Time of Zach’s 11th of the season was 16:58.
1-1 after one period of play. The Rangers outshot the Attack 15-11.
Early in the second period, listening to the game on BearRadio, this writer went to add some wood to the stove in another room of the house. Gone for a couple of minutes, two Ranger goals were missed. Things can happen that fast if people are not paying attention to and executing their assignments properly. Julian Melchiori with his 2nd of the season at 2:47 and Lorentz with his 2nd of the game and 12th of the season at 3:00.
After scoring the first goal of the game, our Attack were not able to respond to three Ranger markers. 3-1 Kitchener after two periods of play. Owen Sound outshot Kitchener 13-12 that period for a 27-24 shots on goal lead for Kitchener.
A goal by Michael Catenacci into the Attack empty net at 19:30 was the only goal of period three.
Final score Kitchener 4 – Owen Sound 1 EN. Final shots on net were 34-22 Rangers.
The 3 Stars of the Game were:
1st Star – Franky Palazzese.
2nd Star – Julian Melchiori.
