Result a no show as Attack Continue Strong Play
They deserved a better result from the way they played, but the Owen Sound Attack dropped their first game of 2023 5-3 to the Peterborough Petes Thursday night int he first game of an Eastern Ontario road trip.
Owen Sound was all over the home Petes for much of the first period, but it was the home team that got on the board first with a goal late in the opening period.
Though trailing the Attack came out of the intermission flying, and were rewarded with a goal less than a minute into the period. It was Captain Colby Barlow who streaked down the left wing, before firing a shot five-hole to bring the Attack even at 1-1. It took just 30 seconds for the Attack to claim a lead, as James Petrovski scored his first as a Bear to give Owen Sound the early second period lead.
The early second period two goals continued as Peterborough pulled back even 2-2 just 35 seconds after Petrovski’s go-ahead goal. The Petes would then reclaim the lead just five minutes later when Connor Lockhart netted his second of the game.
Period three played out much like the first 20 minutes, with the teams remaining scoreless for a majority of the period. It was Peterborough who claimed the insurance marker with just under four minutes to play. Owen Sound looked to claw back into the game, as Gavin Bryant brought the Bears back within a goal with just over a minute on the clock.
An empty net goal would seal the game for the Petes with just 33 seconds left in the game.
Owen Sound will look to bounce back tomorrow night as they continue their road trip in Kingston, facing off against the Frontenacs. Fans can continue to follow the Attack’s road trip on 560 CFOS Bear Radio or on the teams Twitter feed.
