Guindon & Petrovsky Serve with National Teams
Owen Sound Attack prospects Cedrick Guindon and Servac Petrovsky recently spent time with their respective under-18 national team programs, with Guindon participating in the Hockey Canada Under-18 Development Camp and Petrovsky representing Team Slovakia at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Petrovsky and Team Slovakia had a great performance at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, with the Attacks 2021 CHL Import Pick tallying one goal, four assists in five games, while playing on the second line. Team Slovakia went 3-0 in the round robin, finishing first in their group and eventually earned a silver medal losing in the final to Russia.
“It was a great experience and I’m excited that I had a chance to play with my great teammates” said Petrovsky when asked about playing for his country at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. “We played as a team and I will remember it for a rest of my life. The atmosphere was great because we played at home and this definitely helped us to perform our best.”
Guindon, the Attacks first round pick from the 2020 OHL Priority Selection was one of 45 players that headed to Tsuut’ina Nation, Alberta from July 26th to August 3rd for the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence. Normally this camp would determine the team that would participate in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, however, due to the pandemic Canada did not participate. He had 2 goals and 3 assists in 4 scrimmages including 1 goal in a game where they mixed the U20 camp with the U18 camp.
“Having the chance to play against and with the best 2004 players from Canada was an awesome opportunity for me to see where I was at as a player and also to learn from all the great players and staff around me, but having the chance to play with and against the U20 guys was just a whole different game” said Guindon when asked about the under-18 camp experience and getting to play with those at the under-20 camp.
“I was able to learn from guys who already played pro hockey and that are going to play in the NHL in the upcoming season. For those guys to show me how to get ready for games, how to compete in practice and how to act like a professional definitely helped me going into this season. Can’t thank Hockey Canada enough for the great opportunity” added Cedrick.
Attack fans will get their first look at Guindon at Attack training beginning on August 30, while they will have to wait an additional week until September 8 to see Petrovsky due to pandemic travel restrictions.
