Attack Extend Win Streak with 3-0 Win over Barrie
The Owen Sound Attack were back in action on Thursday, looking to extend their three-game winning streak in Barrie against the Colts. After 40 minutes of scoreless hockey the Attack exploded for three third period goals, coming away with a 3-0 victory. Cedrick Guindon, Ethan Burroughs, Declan Waddick found the back of the net, while Carter George made 50 saves recording his third shutout of the season.
After a slow start to the game, the Colts used the games first powerplay opportunity to build momentum and apply pressure by outshooting the Attack early on. The Attack found a counter attack but could not muster many shots on goal. Timely goaltending by both the Colts Ben West and the Attacks George saw the first period end in a 0-0 tie.
In the second period, the Attack regrouped and were able to create more scoring chances, while the Colts continued to pepper the Attack net with shots. Neither team were able to find the back of the net, with West turning away 13 shots and George turning away 19 shots in the middle frame.
In the third period the Attack were finally able to break through, when the Bears powerplay capitalized on a 5-on-3 opportunity on a one-timer off the stick of Guindon. Just under six minutes later the Attack powerplay struck again this time it was Burroughs tapping home the cross ice pass from Servac Petrovsky to make it 2-0. Late in the game with the Colts pressing the Attack were able to extend their lead when Burroughs made a slick pass behind the net to Waddick who was able to complete the wrap around, making it 3 – 0. The Colts continued to press to break the shutout, but George was up to the task stopping all 50 shots he faced for the shutout.
