RECAP: Winterhawks soar to victory in home opener
Portland, Ore. – The Winterhawks came out strong in their home opener with multiple point games from three different players in a 5-3 win over the Kamloops Blazers. Reed Brown scored a hat trick while Jordan Duguay and David Hoy both recorded two assists. Jordan Duguay also notched his 100th point in his career with his assist on Reed Brown’s first goal.

GAME SUMMARY:
The Kamloops Blazers opened the scoring 4:02 into the first period with a goal from Ty Bonkowski. The Hawks responded quickly with a goal from Reed Brown who crashed the crease to put one past Blazer’s goaltender Logan Edmundson.
Going into the second period tied, the Hawks took the lead with two goals in less than a minute from Finn Spehar and Reed Brown. Kamloops struck once in the second but Nathan Brown responded with a quick wrist shot. His second goal of the evening went post and in to put the Hawks up by two going into the final frame.
Ondřej Štěbeták made a flurry of saves that helped keep the Hawks lead going late into the game. Kamloops got within one, but Reed Brown completed his first-career hat with an empty netter to help secure the two points. Štěbeták finished with 33 saves on 36 shots to help bolster the Hawks to their first victory on home ice this season.

Next weekend Portland will stay at home for a Friday and Saturday back-to-back series against U.S. Division rival Spokane Chiefs. Friday’s game is at 7:00PM and Saturday’s at 6:00PM. Both of these games will take place at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, OR.
