Q: What is Hockey Hooky?
A: Hockey Hooky is an annual event hosted by the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. Schools from across “Oil Country” in Northern Alberta join us for an afternoon of hockey, education, and fun. The Oil Kings host a WHL hockey game, with a built-in an educational component including: student workbooks, in-game educational elements, and additional teaching resources accessible in advance of the game to all participating classrooms.

A: The venue for Hockey Hooky is Rogers Place (10220 104 Avenue, Edmonton).
Q: Where can I park my bus, and is there a cost?
A: Bus parking is available on site for the first 200 registered schools. More detailed information about bus drop-off/pick-up and parking will be available closer to the game date through your designated Oil Kings rep.
Q: What do I need to register my bus?
A: We will need the following information for bus registration:
- Total number of bus(es) that require parking or who will be dropping off
- Bus company you will be using
- Time you will need to depart the facility
Q: How much are tickets for this event and what does it include?
A: The price for each attendee is our discounted group rate of $20 and includes: game ticket, access to advance teaching resources, and in-game workbook for all students.
Q: What can our students expect at the game?
A: Hockey Hooky offers an opportunity for students to combine the excitement of an Oil Kings hockey game that also offers a unique educational experience. The workbook issued at the door keeps students engaged as questions will be posted on the video scoreboard during each break in play.
Q: Are students able to bring their own lunches?
A: Yes, we permit the entry of outside food and beverages for Hockey Hooky.
Q: If my students would like to purchase food at the game, will there be concession stands open?
A: Yes, select concessions will be open serving many of our usual menu options.
Q: How many students typically attend this game?
A: The game averages over 9,000 students from over 100 schools throughout Northern Alberta!
Q: How will we receive our tickets?
A: Mobile tickets will be available through your Oil Kings Account Manager.
Q: When will we receive our tickets?
A: Mobile tickets will be available directly after time of purchase.
Q: Will our group be sitting together?
A: Yes, although subject to availability we will do our best to ensure that the entire group will be sitting together.
Q: What if we need to request Accessible Seating?
A: If you email or call us, we will do our best to reserve accessible seating if available.
Q: What age does a child have to pay for a ticket?
A: A purchased ticket is required for ages 2 and up, children under the age of two must sit on a guardian’s lap (unless a ticket is purchased)
Q: What do we do if there are late orders submitted?
A: If there are any late orders, please have the families contact us directly and we will do our best to get them tickets but there is no guarantees they will be available or with the group.
