Penalties Hurt Oil Kings in Loss to Hitmen
Calgary, Alta. – The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped their first game in regulation this season on Friday night by a 6-1 score to the Calgary Hitmen.
In the first period, Parker Snell had to be sharp for the Oil Kings as Edmonton was outshot 13-7 in the frame. Calgary would open the scoring with about five minutes to play on the powerplay as Wyatt Pisarczyk’s shot found its way past Snell to make it 1-0. However, it took less than two minutes for the Oil Kings to respond on a powerplay of their own as a long shot from Aaron Obobaifo beat Eric Tu to tie the game, holding that way through 20 minutes.
In the second, a forecheck turnover forced by the Hitmen led to a Artem Katsuro goal for a 2-1 Calgary lead. Then, another powerplay marker by the Hitmen made it 3-1 as Brennan Brown tipped a Hunter Aura shot home. Calgary would outshoot the Oil Kings in that frame 12-9.
Calgary added three more goals in the third period, taking a 6-1 lead, one they would hold the rest of the way.
Edmonton’s Powerplay ran 1-for-4 in the game, while the penalty kill was 4-for-7.
The Oil Kings are now 1-1-1-0 on the season and will be back in action on Sunday when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers.
