RECAP: Fronts run into a hot goalie, fall to the Petes 3-2 in OT
Story of the Game: The black and gold were looking for an encore performance of their game this past Wednesday night where they put forth a complete team effort on the road in Ottawa and won 6-3. The standings may suggest that the Peterborough Petes are an easy win, but they’re a well coached team and known for their hard-nosed defensive effort and they never give up on a game.
The game also marks the first home contest for the Frontenacs in the freshly re-named Slush Puppie Place.
Scoring Summary:
1st Period
KGN 1, PBO 0
4:02 Maleek McGowan (2) – Matthew Soto, Paul Ludwinski
The opening goal of the night was a coach’s dream. The big frame of Jacob Battaglia set the screen in front of Petes’ goalie Liam Sztuska and Maleek McGowan fired a shot from the point and beat Sztuska clean over his glove hand. After not scoring all season, McGowan now has goals in back to back contests.
KGN 1, PBO 1
13:26 Quinton Page (10) – Nico Addy, Cam Gauvreau
After some extracurriculars after a whistle, Roman Schmidt found himself in the penalty box and the Petes found themselves on a man advantage. The puck was fired towards Mason Vaccari and bounced around in front of the Kingston net before landing on the stick of Quinton Page who squeezed the loose puck through Vaccari to even the game up at one a side.
2nd Period
KGN 1, PBO 2
7:46 Ryder McIntyre (5) – Chase Lefebvre, Brennan Faulkner
After Jakub Chromiak stepped up and delivered a hit on Chase Lefebvre, the Petes went the other way on a two on one break. Ryder McIntyre streaked up the right hand side of the ice and held onto the puck and beat Mason Vaccari under his right arm to give Peterborough a 2-1 advantage.
KGN 2, PBO 2
12:40 Gabriel Frasca (11) – Quinton Burns, Roman Schmidt
The Frontenacs were firing shots at a rapid pace towards the Peterborough net midway through the second period. Quinton Burns fired the puck towards the Peterborough net and the puck went off a couple bodies in front before coming loose to Gabriel Frasca. Frasca took the puck and displayed incredible patience, waiting out the outstretched Sztuska before tucking home a backhander to even up the game once again.
Overtime
KGN 2, PBO 3
0:42 Chase Lefebvre (12) – Tommy Purdeller
After no score in the third period, Chase Lefebvre entered the Frontenacs’ zone in the extra frame and ripped a laser of a shot over the right shoulder of Mason Vaccari to win the game for the visitors.
