RECAP: Kingston takes advantage of home ice with 4-1 win in Game Three
Story of the Game: The first round series between your Kingston Frontenacs and the North Bay Battalion shifts to Kingston for games three and four; starting tonight with a very crucial game three.
The Frontenacs return home down in a 2-0 hole in the series, but a win tonight would go a long way in getting themselves back in the series. A win tonight could breathe new life into this team and it can reset their confidence heading into game four; but it all starts tonight. If the Frontenacs take it game by game, one game at a time, anything is possible for this team.
Scoring Summary:
1st Period
KGN 1, NB 0
12:19 Ethan Miedema (1) – Gage Heyes, Gabriel Frasca
The new look line of Miedema, Frasca and Heyes didn’t take long to find some chemistry with one another as the trio teamed up to find the back of the net in the first. Gage Heyes sent a pass across the width of the ice to a streaking Ethan Miedema who blew by his man at the blueline before sliding the puck between the five-hole of Mike McIvor to give the black and gold a crucial 1-0 lead.
KGN 2, NB 0
17:47 Roman Schmidt (1) – Tyler Hopkins, Chris Thibodeau
A scrum in the corner to the left of Battalion netminder Mike McIvor was eventually chipped out after multiple attempts but it went right towards a wide open Roman Schmidt. Schmidt took no time at all and hammered a slapshot towards the net and it blew by McIvor to extend the Kingston lead to 2-0.
KGN 3, NB 0
18:33 Matthew Soto (1) – Jacob Battaglia, Paul Ludwinski
Kingston caught a break before the first would come to a close as an errant stick from a North Bay defender caught Quinton Burns up high and drew blood, meaning the Frontenacs would head to a four minute man advantage. After Jacob Battaglia was denied in tight, Matthew Soto was there to clean up the loose change and bury the rebound to make it a 3-0 game.
2nd Period
KGN 3, NB 1
3:34 Jacob Therrien (1) – Ty Nelson, Dalyn Wakely
North Bay Head Coach Ryan Oulahen couldn’t have been happy with what he saw from his team in the opening period; and you could tell something was said in the dressing room during the intermission because the Battalion had a little jump in their step to kickoff the second.
Mason Vaccari made a flurry of quick saves in tight, but a rebound fell to Jacob Therrien who was unmarked at the side of the net who was able to tap in a goal to get his side back into the game.
3rd Period
18:57 Paul Ludwinski (1) – Linus Hemström, Roman Schmidt
The Frontenacs spent a majority of the final five minutes a man short as the Battalion pulled their goalie early to try and get back in the game. Several key saves from Mason Vaccari and a slew of blocked shots from Jax Dubois, Roman Schmidt and many more helped seal the deal for Kingston.
After a Jax Dubois blocked shot, Linus Hemström found Paul Ludwinski down the ice and the captain would wrap game three up in a bow for Kingston; as they win and get back into the series with a 4-1 final.
