Frontenacs defensive woes continue in loss to Erie
Kingston, ON – The Kingston Frontenacs battled through a high-scoring affair Sunday afternoon, falling 8-6 to the Erie Otters at Slush Puppie Place.
Kingston opened the scoring 7:38 into the game when Robin Kuzma finished off a feed from Adam Goljer and Landon Wright. Aleks Kulemin then doubled the lead just under three minutes later, scoring his second of the season with Dante D’Andrea picking up the assist.
Erie answered late in the opening frame before scoring twice early in the second to take a 3-2 lead.
The Frontenacs responded quickly, with Nolan Snyder tying the game on the power play at 3:34 of the second. Erie regained the lead before Adam Goljer converted on another Kingston power play to make it 4-4. Kulemin then restored the Frontenacs’ lead at 10:46, scoring his second of the afternoon and third of the season.
The back-and-forth affair continued, with Erie scoring twice more before the end of the second period to take a 6-5 advantage into the third.
Erie extended its lead early in the final frame before Alex McLean brought Kingston back within one just 33 seconds later, burying a power-play goal from Tomas Pobezal and Goljer.
The Otters added an insurance marker later in the third to secure the 8-6 victory.
Kulemin led the Frontenacs offensively with two goals, while Goljer recorded a goal and two assists. Snyder and McLean also found the back of the net, with Kuzma rounding out Kingston’s scoring.
The Frontenacs will look to get back in the win column on Thursday night when they head to Barrie to do battle with the Colts for the first time in this young OHL season.
