Schemitsch Scores in Shootout
The Attack pulled off a big win against the Whalers on Saturday night, ousting the visiting team in a shootout. This was the third meeting between the two teams this season, with Owen Sound now 3-0 against the Whalers. The Owen Sound Junior Attack Minor Bantams were on hand prior to the game to help kick off The Plan to Attack Hunger, an initiative by the Attack and Investor’s Group. The Minor Bantams raised over $1300.00 in the hour prior to the game, an impressive feat!
Alex Nedeljkovic put in a solid performance en route to first star honours, turning aside 46 of 48 total shots. Brandon Hope also played very well, making 33 saves in his 13th win of the season.
Plymouth would open the scoring early in the first with a power play goal from Gianluca Curcuruto. The marker was the defenseman’s 2nd goal and 8th point of the season.
Owen Sound would respond soon after, with a goal from Holden Cook. Cook has been playing very well for the Attack as of late, recording his 10th goal of the season and 23rd point of the season with his goal and assist in the game.
The game would stay tied at one until half way through the second period where Plymouth tallied a second goal on the power play. Victor Crus Rydberg scored his 6th of the season on the man advantage, finishing off a play from Curcuruto and Sandlak.
Owen Sound would finish off the regulation scoring soon after in the second, when Daniel Milne potted his 5th goal of the season. The third was a tight checking period where both goalies played well and made crucial stops for their team.
Nothing could be decided in overtime as the game eventually went to the shootout. Gemel Smith started off for the Attack with a nice deke to beat the Plymouth netmider. The Whalers equalized on the next shot, when Zach Lorentz found some room to put it past Hope. It was all Owen Sound in the shootout after the Lorentz goal, as Thomas Schemitsch scored for the Attack, and Brandon Hope shut the door or two other Plymouth skaters to preserve the win.
