Otters Take Game One In Erie
It is Thanksgiving Weekend and our Owen Sound Attack are in Erie, Pennsylvania for their annual two game set versus the Otters. Games Friday and Saturday night. The Otters’ two game return match will be January 13th and 14th in Owen Sound.
The Otters started the game without a win or a point yet this season after four games. Our Attack had lost their last two games for a 3-3 record. JP Cesario started in net for our Attack. Christopher Festarini for the Otters. Both clubs could use a win.
Erie winger Greg McKegg is one of the current great OHL stars. Last time our Attack faced Greg was during our Championship regular season and last February 16, 2011, Greg led his Otters to a 6-2 victory over the Attack with 4 goals. After a 1-1 first period, Greg assisted on four Erie goals in the second period as the Otters got things going and led 5-3 after two periods of play. Greg plays on a line with Brett Thompson and Luke Cairns. They can dominate.
61 seconds into the third, the Attack killed a penalty and made it a one goal game after Brendan Childerley brought the puck up ice feeding Gemel Smith. Gemel put the puck on net where Artus Gavrus tipped/deflected his 1st Ontario Hockey League goal.
A Luke Cairns goal at 10:05 was assisted by ?, Greg McKegg.
Attack rookie defenceman Jake Dotchin fired his 1st OHL goal with a blast from the point at 12:42 while working an Attack powerplay. A 6-5 game.
This McKegg boy would just not go away. With Matt Petgrave in the penalty box, Greg picked up his 6th assist of the game setting up Brett Cook for his first of the season at 15:54.
