Attack Slip By Otters
Our OHL Midwest Division rival Erie Otters, made their 1st of three regular season visits to Owen Sound Wednesday night. Our Attack were in Erie for games October 7th and 8th, losing 7-5 and winning 6-3. The Attack now lead the season series 2-1.
Final score Owen Sound 3 – Erie 1 EN. The Attack have won 5 straight at home and improve their record to 12-10-1-1. The Otters trail the OHL Western Conference at 3-17-0-0.
Scott Stajcer got the start in net for our Attack. Ramis Sadikov for the Otters. Both playing their overage seasons.
It took till the 6:35 mark of the second period before the Attack would get on the scoreboard. How many times can one talk about the speed and hockey sense that Jarrod Maidens brings. This time, his backchecking once again pays off as he is able to snap up a puck, backhand a pass to Gemel Smith and the turnover sent Gemel and Mike Halmo into the Erie endzone. Gemel faded right before feeding Mike, who crossed in front of Sadikov from the left side. Mike held the puck till he had room to slip a backhand around Ramis for his 11th goal of the season at 6:35. 1-0 after two periods of play.
Tyson Teichmann replaced Sadikov in the Erie net to start period three. Sadikov was not seen on the Otters bench for the third period.
This game was not one of the most entertaining game fans have or will witness this season, but there were 9 seconds of play in the third period that jumped right out at you. At 8:35, Otters defenceman Derek Holden was sent off for a high sticking minor penalty. Four seconds later, after Gemel Smith won a faceoff left side Erie zone, Jay Gilbert stepped into one and fired his 2nd of the season high stick side on Teichmann. Another five seconds go by and underagers – 1995 born – Zack Nastasiuk and Nick Betz are fighting. That’s some action in under 10 seconds of play.
The Otters tightened things up when Stephan Harper wristed his 7th of the season at 17:05. No. Not the PM. The skilled winger from Burlington.
Otters Head Coach Robbie Ftorek took his time-out at 19:35 and pulled Teichmann for the extra skater. Jarrod Maidens slid his 11th goal of the season in the empty Otter net just 12 seconds later. Mike Halmo assisted.
The 3 Stars of the Game were:
1st Star – Scott Stajcer with a 32 save performance. His 50th win for our Attack.
2nd Star – Jay Gilbert with the game winning goal.
3rd Star – Ramis Sadikov. Tyson Teichmann skated on the ice to represent Ramis.
The Dickie’s Clothing Hardest Working Attacker of the Game was Zack Nastasiuk.
