Attack Laboring for Goals
The Barrie Colts completed a very successful home and home series with the Owen Sound Attack on Monday. Barrie skated to a 5-0 shutout win after taking the 6-2 decision one day prior in Owen Sound.
Mathias Niederberger was the story in this game as he made 27 stops for the shutout in his first appearance as a Colt. Clint Windsor stopped 35 of 37 shots in Sunday’s 6-2 win as both goalies have started their pre-season campaign on a winning note.
Barrie’s power play capitalized three times on the duo of Jordan Binnington and J.P. Cesario, who combined to make 18 saves in the losing effort.
Colin Behenna scored the first goal of the game on a great passing play between him, Mark Scheifele and Tanner Pearson giving Barrie a 1-0 lead after the first period.
At 4:17 of the second the Colts would once again score with the extra attacker and this time it was Gregg Sutch finishing off a pass from Kyler Nixon for his first of the pre-season. Zach Hall also picked up an assist on the play.
Not even two minutes later Barrie would make it 3-0 when Pearson scored from Scheifele and Norm Ezekiel.
Erik Bradford and Steven Beyers added goals in the third period to make it a 5-0 final.
The Attack are back in action this Saturday when they head to Woodstock, ON. to take on the Erie Otters.
