Attack Have Spirit; Win in SO
The Attack finished up their third game in three days by visiting the Saginaw Spirit on Sunday afternoon in Michigan.
Looking for their fourth win in a row, the Attack were coming off wins against Sudbury on Friday and Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday. Brandon Hope would get his second start in as many weekends for the Attack while Jake Paterson would tend goal for the Spirit.
Saginaw found the scoreboard first in this one when Jeremiah Addison potted his 2nd of the season past Hope. 1-0 would be the way the first would end with Saginaw holding the edge in shots.
The Attack would draw even in the second period when Cameron Brace tallied his 21st of the season, from Catenacci and Dotchin. Both teams would trade chances with Paterson and Hope making several big saves, but that would all the scoring for the 2nd period and we would head to the third tied at one.
The goals would come fast and furious in the 3rd for both teams. Zach Nastasiuk’s 8th of the season alone in front would make it 2-1, but just a few short minutes later, Nick Moutrey would tie the game all alone in front.
Vincent Trocheck’s 21st goal of the season would put the home team up 3-2 as the Attack found themselves behind. Just twenty two seconds later, Joseph Blandisi would fire home a Gemel Smith feed on a 2 on 0 to draw the game even at three.
Jason Shaw, brother of former Attack forward Andrew Shaw would get whistled for CFB with 52 seconds remaining, but the Attack would be unable to capitalize and would take the man advantage into overtime.
Overtime would solve nothing and we would head to a shootout.
After Cameron Brace was stopped, Daniel Catenacci made a nifty move to score and Brandon Hope would stop all three Spirit shooters to give the Attack a 4-3 win and a hard earned six out of six points this weekend!
The Centennial Windows Three Stars of the game were:
3) Gemel Smith 2A
2) Nick Moutrey 1G
1) Brandon Hope 42SV + 3 in the SO
Zach Nastasiuk (1G,1A) could also have easily been a star in today’s game.
A London win on Sunday means the Attack are still three points back of the Knights, however; Owen Sound provided some breathing room between themselves and Kitchener for 2nd in the MidWest division.
