Attack exact revenge on Storm
The Owen Sound Attack were out for revenge when they took to the ice against the Guelph Storm on Saturday, Feb. 20.
After dropping the first game of a weekend home and home on Friday night, Owen Sound came out with a vengeance on Saturday and downed the Storm by a score of 4-1 in front of almost 3200 fans at the Bayshore.
Petrus Palmu continued his hot play as of late, scoring once to give him four goals in the last three games, while also adding a pair of assists in the win.
Also recording multi-point games in the win were Bryson Cianfrone and Santino Centorame, while Michael McNiven would make 22 saves en route to picking up his 17th win of the season.
Noah Carroll would get the visiting Storm on the board first, tipping home a powerplay goal with just 3:43 gone in the first period.
The game’s opening goal would come with the Attack in the midst of a Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill, but the next time the Attack were a man short wouldn’t be as productive for the Storm.
In fact, it would be Owen Sound who took advantage of the special teams opportunity with Petrus Palmu scoring a highlight reel goal for his 15th of the year.
Palmu would force a turnover at the Attack blueline before streaking down the ice and undressing Michael Giugovaz for his 15th of the season, tying the game at 1 with 11:16 gone in the 1st.
The Attack would then double their lead on a powerplay of their own, with this goal coming on a blast of a slapshot by Santino Centorame. The captain’s 13th goal of the season would be assisted by Palmu and Bryson Cianfrone, and give Owen Sound the 2-1 lead at the 15:22 mark of the frame.
The teams would hold each other to a stalemate until there were less than five minutes remaining in the middle stanza, and then the Attack’s Baywest Nissan Powerplay unit would strike again.
Up on a two man advantage, Owen Sound would play catch with the puck to the left of the Storm cage before Sean Durzi went top shelf with a snapshot to put the Attack up 3-1. Thomas Schemitsch and Ethan Szypula would get the helpers on Durzi’s 4th goal of the year, which came at 15:42 of the 2nd.
The Attack would add on to their lead late in the 3rd, scoring on yet another Baywest Nissan Powerplay.
This time it would be Bryson Cianfrone finding the back of the net on a nice little curl and drag move, with Petrus Palmu grabbing his 2nd assist of the night on the play. Santino Centorame would also tally an assist on the 4-1 goal, which came at 12:55 of the 3rd.
Palmu’s effort eared him Mac Taylor Corporation 1st Star honours while Santino Centorame was named the game’s 2nd star. Guelph goalie Michael Giugovaz rounded out the stars of the game with his 45 save performance.
Jaden Lindo was named the Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the game for the Attack.
The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal finished at 49-23 for the Attack on the evening.
Owen Sound is back in action on Wednesday night when they play host to the Niagara IceDogs in a 7:00pm tilt.
