Attack Drop 5-3 (EN) decision to Colts
The Owen Sound Attack rode into Barrie on a three game winning streak having defeated three Eastern Conference opponents earlier in the week.
Coming off a 5-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves, the Attack were squaring off against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The Barrie Colts were also winners of three in a row and sit atop the Central division with 78 points.
Michael McNiven got the nod in net for the Attack opposite McKenzie Blackwood for the Colts. The Colts came in to this game having shut out the Attack in their last meeting on February 10th at the Bayshore.
The Attack would start off much the way that game on February 10th ended when Andrew Mangiapane got the Colts on the board first with a shorthanded marker. This would be the lone marker for either team in the first and the Colts skated into the first intermission up a goal.
The Attack would strike back early in the second frame when Barrie Minor Hockey grad Tyler MacArthur buried his first of the season, which was his 4th point in two games after collecting three assists on Friday evening. The see-saw battle would continue as the Colts and Attack traded goals once more before the period was over. Petrus Palmu for the Attack and Justin Scott for Colts.
Tied at two early in the third period, Petrus Palmu took a nifty feed from Bryson Cianfrone and deposited his team leading 21st goal of the season to stake the Attack to a 3-2 lead.
That lead however; would be short lived as Andrew Mangiapane scored his second goal of the game to tie the game at three. With just over five minutes left in the third, Rasmus Andersson fired a bullet past Michael McNiven to give the Colts the 4-3 lead. Justin Scott would add his second of the game into an empty net and the Colts would walk away with a 5-3 victory.
The Mark McDade shots on goal for the game were 36-30 in favor of the Attack.
The Mac Taylor Corporations Three Stars of the Game were
3) Justin Scott (2G)
2) Andrew Mangiapane (2G)
1) Rasmus Andersson (1G)
Petrus Palmu deserves honorable mention and likely a star for a very strong game and a two goal performance.
The Attack wish to thank all of the Attack Pak members who made the trip to Sudbury and Barrie to cheer on the Attack.
The Attack is back at home on Wednesday evening when they host the Barrie Colts. Game time at the Bayshore is 7:00pm.
