Pearson Commits to UPEI Panthers
Owen Sound Attack overage forward Kaleb Pearson announced today that he has committed to attend the University of Prince Edward Island and play for the Panthers men’s hockey program beginning in September 2021. Pearson becomes the 57th Attack player to head each to compete in U Sports Atlantic University Sport conference and lucky number 13 to attend UPEI.
“I am super excited to see what the future holds and I’m very happy with my decision to go out east” said Pearson. “After talking with Forbes MacPherson, I knew that the University of PEI was the best fit for me to develop as a player and a person.”
The native of St. Mary’s, Ontario was acquired by the Attack from the Flint Firebirds on August 28, 2018 and was signed by the Attack two days later. Pearson had a breakout year in 2019-20 scoring 28 goals and adding 24 assists with an impressive plus-25 rating in 62 games. Pearson became one of the Attacks most reliable forwards at both ends of the ice. At the team’s year-end awards BBQ, he was the co-winner of the Harry Kazarian Award for the teams most improved player in 2018-19 and Huron Tractor Supply Player of the Week award in 2019-20.
“UPEI is very fortunate to have a player like Kaleb Pearson coming in” said Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “I have no doubt that Kaleb would’ve been one of the top overage players in the OHL had we played last season. He has truly developed his game in all facets threw out his time in Owen Sound.”
“I look forward to hearing all about his success while out on the East Coast. He was a tremendous asset to the Attack organization and we wish him well” added DeGray.
Before joining some familiar faces on the Canadian east coast and beginning his studies as a Sociology major, Pearson will take to the ice at the Vegas Golden Knights rookie camp beginning on September 15.
