OWEN SOUND, ON – The Owen Sound Greys hosted the Barrie Colts for their Sunday afternoon puck drop as a Rivalry Week rematch. The Colts saw goals from WIlliam Schneid, Carter Lowe, Sebastian Mogull, and Luca Testa. While the Greys Captain Pierce Mbuyi, Lucian Bernat, and Jake Crawford found the back of the net.
The opening period did not go in the Greys favour when the Colts scored twice in two minutes. Schneid snuck one past the Greys goaltending at the thirteenth and a half minute while Lowe capitalized on the Colts powerplay to make it 2-0 Colts.
The Greys came back to the second period hungry to get themselves on the scoreboard. The Captain struck first on the powerplay to cut the Colts lead in half just after the eight minute mark. The Greys special teams were not done there when Lucian Bernat notched his own powerplay goal to tie this game. In the final minute of the period Mogull put the Colts back in the lead on the power play.
Third period saw a goal from Testa to put the Colts up 4-2, but not for long when Mbuyi scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-3 and then three minutes later Jake Crawford scored the neutralizer to send this game to overtime – for the second time this week.
Overtime was a rush of play with both teams wanting to come out victorious, but neither were able to get the puck past the other goalies. A face-off in the final five seconds of play in the Colts zone was exactly what the Greys needed when Lucian Bernat took a buzzer beater slap shot to secure the win.
Both goalies saw 39 shots on goal, with Barrie’s Matvei Nikonovich stopping 34 of the shots and Owen Sounds Ryerson Leenders stopping 35.
