OWEN SOUND, ON – In their first of eight meetings with the Guelph Storm, the Owen Sound Attack were unable to secure the win against the 2027 Memorial Cup Hosts, losing 5-1. Owen Sound’s lone goal was netted by Captain Pierce Mbuyi, while the Storm saw goals from Tyler Hopkins, Timothy Kazda, Ethan Czata, Ryan Roobroeck, and Patrick Babin.
Hopkins, who returned from Leafs training camp earlier this week alongside fellow prospect Harry Nansi, opened the scoring within the first minute and a half. Hopkins slotted the sole goal of the first period past Ryerson Leenders to give the Storm an early lead.
Period two opened up with a response from the Mbuyi who capitalized on the power play, evening the score just before the six minute mark. Unfortunately, the Storm countered the Attacks goal with two of their own from Kazda who scored the game-winner and Czata who notched the insurance goal in the final minute of the second.
The final frame of the game went in the Storm’s favour with the team from the Royal City scoring twice more within three minutes. With Roobroeck leveraging Guelph power play getting past the Attack goaltending followed by Babin sneaking one past as well to make the final score 5-1 for the visitors.
Ryerson Leenders faced a whopping 40 shots making 35 saves between the pipes for the Attack. Newly acquired Ben Hrebik made 25 saves on the 26 shots he faced in his second game in the Storm Uniform.
