Attack’s Busy Week Headlined by Three Divisional Games
Coming off a week were they played just once, the Owen Sound Attack are gearing up for a busy first full week of November.
The puck first drops at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday night, as the Attack and Rangers square off for their third meeting of the young season. Owen Sound has claimed victory in the previous two showdowns between the Midwest Division rivals, outscoring the Rangers 8-4. Those meeting happened before Kitchener got Montreal Canadiens prospect Filip Mesar, as the Slovakian native selected 31st overall in July, was sent to play for the Rangers midway through October. With Mesar in Kitchener and Minnesota Wild prospect Servac Petrovsky, on the Attack roster, the international intrigue has grown in this Midwest battle.
It will be a short turn around for the Attack, as they return to the Bayshore for a mid-week clash with the Sarnia Sting. The Wednesday night showdown marks the second meeting between the Bears and the Sting, with Sarnia using quick strike offence in the first game to claim a 3-2 victory down in Sarnia. Led by Toronto Maple Leaf prospect, Ty Voit, the shifty forward is always a threat with the puck, as he leads the league in points with 30 in just 15 games. To counter, the Attack rely on a strong team defence and balanced scoring attacking, having 16 different skaters register at least one goal so far this season.
The week rounds out with another weekend double-header, this time it’s the Erie Otters visiting the Bayshore for the Saturday-Sunday two game mini series. The plucky Otters have proven to be a tough opponent early on in the season, as they currently sit tied with the Attack atop the Midwest Division. The teams split their previous weekend double-header earlier this season, down at the Erie Insurance Arena, but the Attack will be looking to use the friendly confines of the Bayshore to boost them above the Midwest rival.
With four games, and two back-to-backs slated for the week, there is a chance that Attack rookie net minder Carter George sees time between the pipes. The 16-year old has impressed in his first two OHL outings helping the Attack claim a comeback victory in Barrie as he came in relief, and then saw his first career start Sunday, October 30th, when he allowed just a single goal agains the Kingston Frontenacs.
