Attack Drop Tough Outing in Kitchener
It was a rough start to a busy week for the Attack, as they fell 7-1 to the Kitchener Rangers on a Tuesday night at the Aud.
It was a slow start to the game for Owen Sound, as they struggled to keep pace with the Rangers pace of play. The Attack held the adage of bend but don’t break, as they continued to bend to the Rangers offensive onslaught, but kept the home side off the score board until late in the first period. After an early penalty kill, thanks in large to goalie Corbin Votary, the Attack broke, on the second penalty kill, as the extra skater proved too much for Owen Sound. A late period goal had the Bears trailing by a pair going into the second period, but there was still a sense of being in the game.
The middle frame was better from Owen Sound, but they still could not find a beak through goal to cut into the Rangers lead. It looked as though captain Colby Barlow had gotten the Attack on the board with a shorthanded goal, but the play was called back, being ruled off-side. Shortly after play resumed, Montreal Canadiens prospect, Cedrick Guindon did get the Attack on the board with a shorthanded marker, after taking a nice chip pass from Servac Petrovsky. Unfortunately, for Owen Sound they could not build on the momentum of the goal, as Kitchener regained their two goal lead just 30 seconds later.
The back breaker came just 10 seconds into period three, when the Rangers stretched their lead to 4-1 and never looked back. Though the Attack pushed, they were unable to generate quality chances in high danger areas, as the Rangers forced Owen Sound to the perimeter for much of the game. Kitchener would add three more goals throughout the period, to claim the 7-1 win.
Owen Sound will have a short turn around, as they are back in action tomorrow night at the Bayshore when they welcome the Sarnia Sting. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the MacVicar and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office or online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
