Home Ice Struggles Continue in 6-4 Loss to Ottawa
The Ottawa 67’s visited the Bayshore for the only time this season on Saturday night and were able to come away with a 6-4 victory over the Owen Sound Attack. Ben Cormier, Deni Goure, Konnor Smith and Colby Barlow found the back of the net for the Attack, while Carter George made 38 save in the loss.
Starting with a strong push, the Attack and 67’s were in the thick of a battle at both ends of the rink. The Attack were rewarded just over three minutes into the opening frame when Cormier buried his shot off an Antonio Tersigni rebound to make the score 1-0. Ottawa would even the score at the mid-point of the period, when a Henry Mews shot beat Carter George evening the score at 1.
Ottawa increased the pace and their pressure in the second period and it paid off, as the visitors tallied a five goal second period including three on the powerplay. The lone goal for the Attack in the middle frame came on a nice passing play from Sam McCue to Goure that saw McCue pull the attention of Ian Michelone, leaving the net wide open for Goure. After two periods of play the Attack trailed 6-2.
The Attack found a bit of life in the third when midway through the period a Konnor Smith point shot found its way through a cluster of bodies into the net to bring the Attack within three. The Attack continued to try and find a way to crack the strong play of the 67’s and with under two minutes to play the Attack power play got on the board when Colby Barlow teed up a one timer to bring the Attack within to goals. Despite a valiant effort with the goalie pulled the Attack could not get any closer and the game ended 6-4 in favour of the 67’s.
The Attack will need to have short memories as they have a quick turnaround heading to London to take on the Knights on Sunday afternoon. The Attacks next home game is not until Saturday, January 27th when the Flint Firebirds come to town at 7pm.
