Attack Unable to Keep Pace with Battalion
The game was played fast and furious, but as time ticked away the Owen Sound Attack once again found themselves just a half step slower than their opponents, as they fell for a third straight loss on Wednesday night, dropping a 4-1 decision to the North Bay Battalion.
Owen Sound was able to keep the high octane Battalion offence at bay for much of the opening period, but a goal by the North Bay captain Liam Armsby in the final minute sent the home side to the dressing room with momentum, while the Attack were going to have to regroup.
The opening shift of period two looked promising for the Bears but they were unable to get anything of quality on net, and watched as North Bay countered with an odd-man rush and some slick passing to double the lead. The Battalion would score their first of two power play markers a little later in the second period, as the Bears found themselves down by 3-0 going into the final period.
In typical Owen Sound fashion the Attack did not quit despite the deficit and the fact they were playing one of the top teams in the OHL, but rather kept their compete level up and were rewarded for their efforts. It was Thomas Chafe who eventually slid the puck home, after his line of Jackson Stewart and Ben Cormier had a great net drive, taking the play to the Battalion. The goal sparked the Bears, who were hungry for more, but North Bay halted any comeback bid with their second power play marker, this one coming in the latter half of period three.
Between the pipes for the Attack was over age Nick Chenard, and though struggling of recent put in a solid performance making a handful of big saves to keep Owen Sound within striking distance all game.
The Attack continue their week Friday night as they look to stall their slide down the Western Conference playoff standings, with a Midwest division matchup down in Kitchener against the Rangers. A return home Saturday night against the Oshawa Generals rounds the week’s games out, with fans able to purchase tickets to Saturday night’s contest at the MacVicor and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office by calling 519-371-7452 or going online here.
