Attack Show Heart, But Fall 8-1 to Wolves
A tough game against the Sudbury Wolves left the Owen Sound Attack hanging high and dry with a 8-1 loss Friday night. Holding the lone goal for the Attack tonight was Cole Zurawski making his 11th goal of the 2024-25 hockey season.
The Attack came out of the gates flying in the first period. Blocking shots, sacrificing the body, creating turnovers and hounding the Wolves net with shots and traffic. Owen Sound would run into hot water with Wolves’ goaltender, Nate Krawchuk, who wasn’t letting anything by him. The Wolves were first to get on the board tonight. Ziliotto was able to bury the rebound off of O’Dell’s shot in-close, making the score. The Wolves won a puck battle behind the Attack’s net opening enough room out front for Villeneuve to put his team up by two.
The second period was unfortunately dominated by the Wolves. Sudbury started off the scoring only three minutes into the frame. Winning a puck battle once again behind the net allowed Zilotto to put away the rebound off of Di Giantommaso’s wrap around shot, putting the Wolves up by three early in the game. Nine minutes later the Wolves found themselves on the powerplay and acted quickly. Slowing down play in the Attack’s zone, Musty found time and space along the boards and found a wide open Molnar in the slot. Molnar ripped it at Attack goaltender Matthew Koprowsi who made the initial save, but the puck took a very odd bounce high up, landed on Koprowski’s shoulder and fluttered into the net, putting the Wolves up by four. Thirty seconds later the Wolves quickly got into the Attack’s zone, Di Giantommaso skated the puck behind the net, crossed the goal line and executed a spin-o-rama shot to sneak the puck by Koprowski and put his team up by five. Four minutes later, Mews was able to finish off a beautiful tic-tac-toe play for a 6-0 lead. Not even a minute later the Wolves would once again find themselves slowing down the pace of play in the Attack’s zone. Chitaroni found himself behind the Attack’s net with time and space, easily setting up Coughlan to put his team up by seven.
The third period tightened up for defensive play and ramped up the physical play for both teams. The Bears wanted to show their never quit mentality to finish off this game, which they did. Although the valiant efforts, they were not able to get on the board first. Eight minutes into the third frame, Villeneuve broke into the Attack’s zone with speed. Pharand waited along the boards for the open man, finding Villeneuve quickly who ripped it in for the Wolves eight goal of the night, and his 2nd. Thankfully, the bleeding would stop there when the Attack found themselves on the powerplay two minutes later. Lenny Greenberg who was controlling the point, dished it over to a wide open Cole Zurawski at the top of the circle and sniped it top corner, breaking the deadlock and putting the Attack on the board. The Attack couldn’t get another one past the hot opposing netminder, final score 8-1 in favour of the Wolves.
The Attack will look to get back in the win column on Sunday Afternoon at 2pm for a critical matchup against the Soo Greyhounds. The road game can be streamed on CHLtv and heard on 560 CFOS Bear Radio.
