Attack Select Luc Schweingruber in CHL Import Draft
The Owen Sound Attack added another future piece to a hopeful championship team last Friday, July 1, when they select Luc Schweingruber 32nd overall in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Schweingruber, a native of Switzerland, is a 2003 born left shooting defensemen, who spent the last few season’s playing in the Swiss junior league with the Bern U20 Hockey Club. In the past two full season with Bern, Schweingruber has proven to be a steady presence on the blue line, with the ability to provide offence, highlighted by back to back years of 23 point seasons. This past season the young blue liner set a career high with 19 assists, while also being a key contributor offensively during the playoffs, where he netted 7 points in 8 playoff games.
“Luc is a very strong skating offensive defensemen,” described Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “Though he is on the older side, I feel that he can come in and adjust quickly and provide a steady leadership presence to our younger players.”
Schweingruber has experience on the international stage as well, representing Switzerland from U16-U18 tournaments, and was captain for the Swiss U18 team at the 2020-21 U18 World Championships.
“I’m hoping to bring a positive and help the team win in anyway I can,” Schweingruber offered.
