Attack Falter in Measuring Stick Game Against Ottawa
Team’s always enjoy playing the top teams in the league, and on Sunday afternoon the Owen Sound Attack played that measuring stick game when they battled the league leading Ottawa 67’s. Though showing great defence, the Attack were unable to generate much on offence as they fell 5-1 in the nation’s capital.
It was a small day of celebration early in the day, as Owen Sound welcomed back their Athletic Therapist Andy Brown from the World Junior Hockey Championship, where he won a Gold Medal as a member of the Canadian bench staff.
Playing their third game in four days, the Attack were looking to complete their Eastern Ontario road trip with a big two points. It was unfortunately the home 67’s who came out skating well and forcing the Attack to play defence. Owen Sound, though on their heels, was able to keep Ottawa off the scoreboard until just over the midway point of period one. The Attack were able to keep the score at just 1-0, but managed only two shots of their own as they could not get anything going on offence.
The second period saw much the same as period one, but this time the 67’s were able slip a pair past Attack goalie Corbin Votary, as they claimed a 3-0 lead, but Owen Sound captain and top 2023 NHL Draft Prospect Colby Barlow capitalized on a late period power play to cut the deficit to 3-1.
With claiming momentum late in period two, the Attack went into period three looking for an early goal to pull within one, but it was Ottawa’s turn to show some strong defence.
A piar ope third period goals by the 67’s, put the game away, as the Attack were unable to get anything going on offence, generating just 14 shots on goal.
Owen Sound will return home, but have a short turn around as they head back out on the road Wednesday night to battle against the Niagara Ice Dogs. The Attack will return home Saturday night when they host division rival Guelph Storm at the Bayshore. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the MacVicor and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office or online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
