Attack Fall in Game 2 but Take Series Split Back Home
Well the Attack at least take home ice advantage as they leave Flint.
After a big 6-3 Game 1 win Friday night, the Attack fell victim to some sleepy play mid-way through the third period Saturday night in a tough Game 2 loss, as Flint evened the series with a 6-3 win of their own.
After the teams combined for 3 goals in the first 1:47 of the game, the game became tight checking, as the players battled for every inch of ice.
It was the Firebirds who jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals just 56 seconds apart. It was then Julian Fantino who sniped his first of two on the night, only 10 seconds later, cutting the Flint lead in half.
As the teams battled, the Attack thought they might have had the tying goal late in the opening period, when Nolan Seed banged home a loose puck, but the goal was waved off as the ref had deemed the play dead.
The Attack came close in the second period to finding the equalizer, but Deni Goure was unable to deflect a cross ice pass past Luke Cavallin, as the Firebirds goalie started to show why he was gone of the top net minders in the league.
Attack goalie Nick Chenard was solid in net all night, but was relieved for back-up Corbin Votary after the Flint 5th goal, just over halfway through the third period. Chenard, was never beaten with a clean shot, as 2 of the 5 goals deflected off skates in front, while two more were banged in loose pucks by unchecked Firebird.
The Attack showed a glimmer of hope for a possible comeback, as Servac Petrovsky and Fantino scored in the final 5 minutes of play, but the clock was against the Bears, falling short in Game 2 and leaving Flint with the series split.
The bright side for Owen Sound, is that they have claimed home ice advantage in the series and will look to take full advantage of the Bayshore crowd Monday night in a pivotal Game 3. Fans can purchase tickets for Monday, as well as Game 4 Wednesday night, at the MacVicar and McComb Sutton Realty Box Office or online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
