Attack fall to the Storm 5-3
The Attack traveled to Guelph Thursday night for the first game of the final two against the Storm. This match did not go the way of the Attack and they will look for retribution on Saturday night back at the Bayshore for the last game of the regular season.
The first period started with a lot of back and fourth action, the Guelph Storm getting the better chances of the two teams, The Storm managed to keep the Attack on the outside in their own end, not giving up many high value chances. The Storm were able to get a few chances in the slot, but George shut the door early. Halfway through the first the Storm would strike and break the ice. It would not be long before the Attack retaliated from a quick goal from the Captain Colby Barlow. The rest of the first would progress in similar fashion to the beginning with lot of back and fourth action, with the Storm being the better defensive team.
The second period began much like the first, but the Storm would play even better defensively than they did in the first. Owen Sound’s chanced in the offensive zone were few and far between, Paquette would score for the Guelph Storm only five minutes into the second and the Attack would call a timeout in an attempt to stop the mounting pressure put on by the Storm. Paquette would score immediately after the timeout for his second of the game. The Attack were able to gather themselves midway through the second and rebound off another goal by Colby Barlow. This goal would breathe new life into the struggling Attack and they would begin to mount an offence of their own. Storm goaltender Slavic would stop everything thrown his way and Gueplh would break the offensive pressure by scoring one of their own giving them the 5-2 lead.
The third period would open with far less energy than the previous two. The Storm would begin to play a far more defensive game keeping the Attack outside of their zone. Each team would get their chances, but no offence would come until there were five minutes left in the third period. Servac would find himself tripped up on a break away and should be awarded a penalty shot. He slowly drifted toward Slavic and would snipe one past him to close their deficit to two. The Attack would push hard late in the game pulling their goalie for a man advantage, but to no avail as the Storm would hold onto their lead and secure victory over the Owen Sound Attack.
