RECAP: Trottier Scores Twice as Pats Open Home Schedule with 6-2 Win Over Broncos
Regina, Sask. — The Regina Pats opened their 2026-27 home schedule in style on Sunday afternoon, earning a 6-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos at the Brandt Centre.
Parker Trottier led the way offensively with his first two Western Hockey League goals, while adding an assist for a three-point performance. Liam Pue, Matt Paranych and Zachary Lansard each recorded a goal and an assist, while Zach Moore and Dayce Derkatch contributed a key shorthanded goal in the third period, making it 4-2.
With the win, the Pats improved to 1-1-0-1 on the season, while the Broncos fell to 2-1-0-0.
Regina opened the scoring at 7:05 of the first period on the power play when Ossi Tukio set up Trottier at the top of the right circle, where the rookie winger one-timed the puck into the top corner for his first WHL goal.
The Pats doubled their lead just over five minutes later, capitalizing on another power play. Matt Paranych sent a shot toward the net, and after a scramble in the crease, Pue swept home the loose puck at 12:20 to make it 2-0.
Swift Current responded with a pair of goals late in the opening frame to even the score. Sawyer Dingman buried a rebound at 17:25 before Stepan Farushev capitalized on a Regina turnover in front of the net just 53 seconds later, sending the teams into the first intermission tied 2-2.
Trottier restored Regina’s lead at 11:36 of the second period, carrying the puck across the blue line along the left wing before wiring a shot into the top-right corner.
Regina took control in the final frame, beginning with a shorthanded goal from Moore at 11:36. Derkatch won a puck battle deep in the Swift Current zone and found Moore in front, where the 20-year-old forward fired a shot into the top corner to extend the lead to 4-2.
Lansard added to the advantage on the power play at 16:35, taking a pass from Trottier at the far circle and blasting a shot into the top corner. Paranych rounded out the scoring at 19:19, finishing a pass from Ellis Mieyette in the middle of the ice to seal the 6-2 victory.
The Pats finished the afternoon 4-for-7 on the power play and added a shorthanded marker, while holding the Broncos scoreless on six power-play opportunities. Regina outshot Swift Current 33-22, with Taylor Tabashniuk turning aside 20 shots to earn the win. Cal Conway made 27 saves for the Broncos.

Broncos 2-1 — #32 Sawyer Dingman (1), assisted by #14 Kayd Ruedig & #13 Ty Meunier at 17:25 // Ruedig sent a long-range shot low from the right point that was kicked out by Tabashniuk, with Dingman pouncing on the rebound and depositing it home.
Broncos 2-2 — #36 Stepan Farushev (1), assisted by #23 Luke Huska at 18:18 // Huska forced a turnover in front of the Regina net, where Farushev found the loose puck and backhanded it past an outstretched Tabashniuk.

Pats 3-2 — #43 Parker Trottier (2), assisted by #10 Keets Fawcett, & #13 Liam Pue at 11:36 (PP) // Trottier carried the puck across the line on the left wing side and wired a shot into the top-right corner to restore Regina’s one-goal lead.
Third Period
Pats 4-2 — #18 Zach Moore (1), assisted by #11 Dayce Derkatch at 11:36 (SH) // Derkatch won a puck battle deep in the Swift Current zone and found a wide-open Zach Moore, who wired a shot into the top corner to extend Regina’s lead.
Pats 5-2 — #57 Zachary Lansard (1), assisted by Parker Trottier & #21 Ellis Mieyette at 16:35 (PP) // Lansard took a pass from Trottier at the far circle and blasted a shot into the top corner, making it 5-2.
Pats 6-2 — #44 Matt Paranych (1), assisted by #21 Ellis Mieyette at 19:19 // Mieyette carried the puck over the line and sent a pass into the middle, where an undetected Paranych made no mistake, burying the chance.
