Oil Kings and Hitmen Finish Home and Home against Calgary
Edmonton, Alta. – There certainly won’t be any love in the air on this Valentines Day on the ice as the Edmonton Oil Kings host the Calgary Hitmen in a Battle of Alberta WHL style.
The two clubs met last night in Calgary with the Hitmen scoring four unanswered goals for the 5-3 win over the Oil Kings. Edmonton got goals from Blake Fiddler, coming just 15 seconds into the game, as well as Kayden Stroeder and Ethan MacKenzie. Ethan Simcoe made 16 saves for Edmonton, who also went 0-for-4 on the mad advantage in the game.
Edmonton is still looking for their first win over the Hitmen this season as the two clubs play their fifth of eight meetings this season. Edmonton has scored 10 goals in the four games, but none of the powerplay as they look to break through that tonight. Fiddler, as well as Gavin Hodnett each have three points in the season series against Calgary this season, while Jaxon Fuder has played seven games against Calgary this year between Edmonton and Red Deer, tallying four points.
Meanwhile, the Oil Kings could clinch their spot in the 2026 WHL Playoffs tonight. Simply put, a win tonight and the Oil Kings will clinch their playoff spot. However, other scenarios for a clinch have Moose Jaw losing in regulation, or any Moose Jaw loss combined with an Edmonton overtime or shootout loss.
Edmonton is third in the Eastern Conference, six points ahead of the Hitmen who are fourth.
Puck Drop from Rogers Place is 7 p.m.
