Spits Grounded in Owen Sound
The Attack were at home Sunday afternoon for a game against the Windsor Spitfires. The match marked the 3rd game of the weekend for the team, with the Attack playing in Kitchener on Friday before returning home for a game against the Storm. With wins against the Rangers and the Spitfires, the Attack combined for a 4 point weekend, passing Saginaw in the conference standings and moving into 6th place.
Jack Flinn started for the Attack, and Dalen Kuchmey got the call for the Spitfires. Brandon Hope took the game off after starting the 2 games in 2 nights over the weekend.
The Attack didn’t wait long to open the scoring in the game, as Thomas Schemitsch put one home on the power play. The goal was good for the defenseman’s 4th of the year. Assists on the play were given to Kurtis MacDermid and Jeffrey Gilligan.
The teams would both get their chances in the period, and it was Windsor who would score next. Sam Povorozniouk put the puck past Flinn for his 8th of the season just past the halfway mark in the first frame. Although both teams would continue to battle, no more goals would come until the second period.
Not unlike the first, the Attack were quick out of the gate, and put the puck home on the power play again. Daniel Milne scored for the Attack this time, notching his 7th of the season. The goal for Milne came within the first minute of the period, and was assisted by Smith and Rose.
The Bears would keep the 2-1 lead throughout the 2nd and into the 3rd, until Josh Ho-Sang converted for the Spits. The goal came near the half-way mark in the period and was on a Windsor power play. With the game tied, both teams pushed and created chances, but it would eventually be the Attack that found the back of the net first. Kurtis MacDermid put home his 4th of the season on another Attack power play.
After the MacDermid marker, Flinn and the Attack were able to shut the door on Windsor, preserving the home win in regulation. The win was Flinn’s first in the OHL. The final score of the game was 3-2 for the Attack. With the win, Owen Sound pulled into 2 points of the Spits in the conference standings, who are currently in 5th place in the west.
