Spits Five Goal First Too Much for Attack
The Bears roared into Windsor on a three game winning streak Thursday night and were looking to make it four games in a row.
Brandon Hope would get the start for the Attack while newly acquired goaltender, Alex Fotinos would get the nod for the Spitfires.
Most of the goal scoring tonight would come in the first period, but unfortunately for the Attack, the majority would be by the hometown Spitfires.
After Ben Johnson got the Spits on the board first, Kyle Hope would hammer home a slapshot to tie the game. Windsor is a bit of a homecoming for Hope as he was playing in front of many family and friends at the WFCU Centre.
From there, the first period was all Windsor as the Attack just couldn’t seem to find their feet in their own zone. Windsor scored four more goals in the opening period, including one by former Attack forward, Steven Janes to give the Spitfires a 5-1 lead to start the 2nd period.
Jack Flinn would take over from Brandon Hope to start the second stanza and it seemed to give the Attack some life as Cameron Brace roofed his second of the season past Fotinos. Despite the good start, the Attack would fall four behind the lead as Brady Vale scored his 8th of the season. The Attack would again claw back as Gabriel was sent in on a partial break and he made no mistake, again beating Fotinos up high. Cristiano DiGiacinto would add his 2nd of the night, another deflection past Flinn to give the Spits their four goal lead back.
7-3 would be the way this one ended as the Attack just could not overcome a poor first period.
The Attack is back in action on Friday evening in Plymouth before returning home on Sunday afternoon for Pink in the Rink against the Windsor Spitfires. Fans are also reminded about the Bell skate with the team immediately following Sunday’s game. The skate will go from the end of the game to 4:50pm.
Tickets for Sunday’s game can be purchased at the Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com or by calling (519) 371-7452. Game time on Sunday is 2:00pm.
