Liam Heelis Turns The Trick !
Our Owen Sound Attack were guests of the Barrie Colts Thursday night. The 6th and final regular season meeting between the two long time rivals. The Colts joined the Ontario Hockey League in 1995. Never had the Owen Sound franchise swept a season series with Barrie. Our 2010-2011 Attack have changed that winning all 6 games.
Liam Heelis opened the scoring with his 12th of the season 4:20 into the game. Jarrod Maidens and Garrett Wilson assisted.
Michael Halmo made it a 2-0 game with one of his signature goals where he uses his strength to come from behind the net, turn and fire. His 15th of the season. Andrew Shaw assisted.
Our Attack were killing a penalty when a clearing shot hit a linesman and deflected to Colin Behenna. Colin moved the puck to Eric Locke and it was a 2-1 first period.
Liam Heelis entered the game with11 goals. Before the game, former Attack Assistant Coach and current Barrie Assistant Coach David Bell had mentioned to our BearRadio crew, that Liam had “owned” the Colts with 6 goals against them this season. Liam scored his 13th shorthanded at 6:09 of the second unassisted.
A nice point shot by Geoffery Schemitsch was deflected by Andrew Shaw at 12:22 of the second. The PP goal was Andrew’s 12th of the season with Robby Mignardi also assisting.
Liam scored his 3rd of the night and 14th at 16:32. Jay Gilbert and Jarrod Maidens assisted. 5-1 Attack.
Steven Beyers scored on of those hated late in the period goals for the Colts. A low shot from the point with 31 seconds left in the second period. 5-2 after two.
And then an early in the period goal as Dylan Smoskowitz picked up his 11th of the season just two minutes into the third unassisted. A 5-3 game.
Tanner Pearson made it a one goal game with a PP goal at the 11:00 mark. His 10th of the season with Steven Byers getting the assist.
Although the Colts kept our Attack honest as the game wore down, our boys tightened up and closed things out 5-4. Michael Zador’s 4th win in goal for the Attack.
Final score Owen Sound 5 – Barrie 4. Final shots on net were 35-33 Barrie. Our Attack were 2 for 6 on the power play. The Colts 3 for 9.
The 3 Stars of the Game were:
1st Star – Liam Heelis
