Hounds Use Flurry to Beat Attack
Monday night marked the 3rd game of the 7 game series between your Owen Sound Attack and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The Attack came back from the Soo tied in the series 1-1 and was looking to use their home ice advantage to take a lead in the series and put a lot of pressure on the high seeded Greyhounds with another home game to play on Wednesday night.
The first period was a high-spirited affair with both teams coming out to play and set the tone. Shots were about even in the frame, with 2 penalties killed by the Attack and 1 for the Greyhounds. Both netminders; Brandon Hope and Matt Murray stood tall in the first, blanking the period for both teams.
The second period was a different story. The Attack was given 2 power plays in the start of the period and could not convert. Kurtis Gabriel was then assessed his second penalty of the night as he slash a stick out of the Greyhounds player’s hand. During the power play, the Hounds passed the puck to the point where Captain Darnell Nurse took a slap shot which found the back of the net. A minute later, Santino Centorame was sent to the box and again the Greyhounds were able to convert on a goal by Andrew Fritsch. Less then a minute later, Jean Dupuy of the Greyhounds then added to the lead to make it 3-0. Before the end of the goal filled period, Kyle Hope of the Attack was able to make the Hounds lead stand at 2 heading into the final frame as he made the score 3-1 on a breakaway goal.
The Attack dominated the last period on the shot clock with 18 shots to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 5. Zach Nastasiuk would get the period going for the Bears with a quick goal just 3 minutes into the period. However, the Hounds would score a short handed two on one goal by Darnell Nurse on an Alex Gundbranson penalty to make the game 4-2. The Attack would bring the lead back to 1 on the same power play on a goal by Thomas Schemitsch, his first of the playoffs. The Attack would keep on the pressure trying to tie the game but would give up a very awkward goal by Dylan Corson to seal the game for the Greyhounds with a score of 5-3.
