Greyhounds Even Series at One
The Attack won Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarter Finals in dramatic fashion on Friday night courtesy of a Kyle Platzer OT winner and would be looking for some more magic on Saturday as they played game two in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Attack would be looking for a better start this game after giving up an early 1-0 lead in game one, however; the Greyhound would strike 4:10 in when Sergey Tolchinsky fired home a rebound on the doorstep. Ten minutes later, the Hounds would take a 2-0 lead when Michael Bunting pounced on a loose puck to give the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission. The Hounds outshot the Attack 17-3 in the first period.
The Second period was no kinder to the Bears as the Greyhounds would jump out to a 4-0 lead on goals by former Attack forward Andrew Fritsch and Bryan Moore. The fourth Greyhound goal would spell the end of the night for Brandon Hope, who got little in the way of support. Jack Flinn would take over the it would spark the Attack. Santino Centorame scored his first OHL playoff goal on Friday and would score his 2nd in the 2nd period on a wicked one-timer, bringing the Attack within three.
Before the period was over, Tyler Gaudet and Jean Dupuy would add singles and extend the Greyhounds lead to 6-1.
The Attack had a huge mountain to climb and began chipping away at the lead, bringing the game to 6-2 on another wicked shot by Santino Centorame, just under the bar. Justin Brack would score his first OHL playoff goal and pull the Attack within three goals, but Sault Ste Marie would add a late powerplay marker and take game two by a score of 7-3.
The Attack will leave Sault Ste. Marie with the Split, which is one better than they were able to do one year ago against the Greyhounds in the Playoffs. In the 2013 OHL playoffs, the Attack lost both games in Sault Ste. Marie before returning home to win game five.
Three Stars of the Game were:
3) Andrew Fritsch 1G
2) Darnell Nurse 3A
1) Tyler Gaudet 1G,1A
