Gemel Smith called up to NHL

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the team has recalled forward Gemel Smith from the Texas Stars, Dallas’ top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Smith, 22, has recorded one goal (1-0=1) with a +2 plus/minus rating and seven shots on goal in three games this season with Texas. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound native of Toronto, Ont. was originally selected by Dallas in the fourth round (104th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Dallas takes the Columbs Blue Jackets on Saturday night, and if Smith makes his NHL debut, he would be the 45th alumnus of the Platers/Attack to suit up in an NHL game.
