Four Attack make CSS rankings
The National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Service released its preliminary 2015 draft ranking on Tuesday morning and four Owen Sound Attack members were included in the list.
Goaltender Michael McNiven, defensemen Thomas Schemitsch and Connor Walters, and centerman Ethan Szypula were all included on the list, which ranks players by letter grade based on where the CSS scouts think they will be drafted.
All four of the Attack members were graded as ‘C’ players, which indicates a likely 4th-6th round draft selection.
McNiven has yet to play a game in an Attack uniform but in 35 games played with the OJHL’s Georgetown Raiders in 2013-2014 he posted a 2.60 goals against average along with a .916 save percentage.
Szypula, Schemitsch, and Walters were all rookies in 2013-2014 and were led statistically by Schemitsch, a 6’4, 205 pound defenceman who tallied six goals and 11 assists.
Szypula added three goals and three assists while Walters had one helper in 15 games played.
The Attack open their season on Wednesday, Sept. 24 against the Kitchener Rangers and Tickets for the Bruce Telecom Home Opener are still available at the DJ’s Furniture Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com or by calling (519) 371-7452.
Game time is 7:00pm and will be preceded by the Bayshore Broadcasting Tailgate Party, which begins at 5:30pm and will feature a United Way barbecue, giveaways, and an appearance by former Owen Sound Plater, Kevin Weekes.
