Childerley All Business
At least one young Stratford man is taking advantage of the Government of Ontario’s summer job program.
20 year-old Brendan Childerly was awarded $3,000 to to towards the start up of his business “Junk in Our Trunk.” He, along with employee Jarod Culliton, will help home owners get rid on unwanted items and garbage and take it to the dump or for recycling. They will also help people move.
Childerly came up with the idea when he finished playing with the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack in late March and started to look for a summer job. The program provides up to $3,000, hands-on coaching and mentoring to help 15 to 29 year-olds start and operate their business.
In order to apply, he had to create a business plan. “That was a lot of work, but we learned how to do that in highschool so that helped alot,”said Childerly. He also has to file in time log sheets and keep in touch with the granting agency during the duration of the business. He received $1,500 to start up, and the the remainder $1,500 will arrive if he completes all the requirements.
Childerly and Culliton have a large pick-up truck and a 5 x 10 trailer to help them with their pick-ups. “We will pick up anything but dead animals or hazardous waste,” added Childerly.
