The Owen Sound Attack, in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society and Bayshore Broadcasting is pleased to announce that the first ever Bears in Blue Fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Awareness raised just over $32,000.00. Bears in Blue was held on Sunday, March 2nd and saw the Attack wear Blue and White jersey’s that were auctioned off immediately following the game vs. the Ottawa 67’s.
“Bears in Blue was the first time we held a live auction following a game and we never imagined the response being as positive as it was.”, stated Attack Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “It was a unique event for us and it truly was a lot of fun. As an organization, we cannot thank Bayshore Broadcasting enough, particularly Fred Wallace for lending his name and support to this event.”
While the Auction was held on March 2nd, the Bears in Blue fundraiser also benefited from a Celebrity Server lunch at Boston Pizza and T-Shirt sales leading up to the event. “Our primary source of income for the fundraiser was the jersey auction.”, said Fisher. “Barry Kruisselbrink of Barry’s Construction stepped up huge to support the event by purchasing the jersey’s for the event. His contribution really put the final tally over the top and we cannot thank him enough.”
“Bears in Blue was an opportunity for us to promote the importance of knowing your risks and being tested.”, said Jennifer Wright of the Canadian Cancer Society. “Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian men. The Canadian Cancer Society recommends that men over the age of 50 talk to their healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of prostate cancer testing.”
Wright went on to say, “We’d like to extend a special thank you to the committee, honorary chair Fred Wallace, our donors and sponsors. A very special thank you to the Attack Hockey Club and its players, the support is outstanding.”
In the last three years, the Attack and the CCS have raised over $118,000.00 for Cancer related initiatives!
