Attack lose in London
The Owen Sound Attack were felled by one of the London Knights’ leaders on Friday, Nov. 27.
Registering a natural hattrick over the game’s opening period and a half, Christian Dvorak was London’s catalyst en route to a 6-1 victory for the Knights.
Despite the lopsided score, Attack netminder Michael McNiven would produce a number of highlight reel saves on the evening in a 31 save effort.
Dvorak would score London’s first goal of the game, banging home a rebound after Attack netminder Michael McNiven made an acrobatic save on Mitch Marner shot.
The Knights’ captain would then score his 2nd of the game just over a minute later, this time capitalizing while the Attack were on a Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill. Marner would also grab his 2nd point of the game, assisting on the 2-0 goal at 5:23 of the first.
The Phoenix Coyotes prospect would then complete the hattrick with a goal while the teams were playing 4-on-4 in the first half of the 2nd period.
With Josh Sterk for the Attack, and Ryan Valentini of the Knights both sitting in the box, Dvorak would rush up the ice and find the back of the net with 13:48 left in the middle stanza.
Dvorak would then help someone else find the back of the net by setting up a Matthew Tkachuk goal less than two minutes after the Knights went up 3-0. Also picking up a helper on Tkachuk’s goal would be Marner, as the Knights would find themselves up by four with 8:06 gone in the 2nd period.
Aaron Berisha would then pick up the Knights’ 5th goal of the game when he beat McNiven over his glove hand with a knuckling shot with just 6:17 left before the 2nd intermission.
The Attack wouldn’t be denied a goal though, and a strong game by Kevin Hancock was finally rewarded in the 3rd period.
With 5:19 gone and the Attack on yet another Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill, Hancock went streaking down the left hand side and fired a blistering snapshot over the outstretched glove of London goalie Tyler Parsons.
The goal, which was unassisted, would register as Hancock’s 2nd career OHL marker and first of the year.
London would score one more though, restoring their five goal lead with under four to play in the game.
This time it would be Max Jones finding the back of the net with assists coming from Olli Juolevi and Victor Mete.
Jones’ goal would wrap up the scoring on the night as the Knights would skate off with the 6-1 win.
Christian Dvorak would be named the Mac Taylor Corporation 1st Star of the Game thanks to his 4 point effort while Olli Juolevi and Mitch Marner were 2nd and 3rd stars respectively.
The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal would finish at 37-18 for the home side on the evening.
The Attack and Knights will meet again on Saturday night when they meet in Owen Sound’s annual Bears In Blue men’s cancer fundraiser.
Puck drop is set for 7:30pm and will feature an in-game silent auction as well as a post-game live jersey auction in support of Canadian Cancer Society.
