Attack fall on Bears In Blue night
For the first time in the 2015-16 season, the Owen Sound Attack finished a weekend set without picking up a point.
The London Knights found a way to win the back end of a home and home with the Attack, downing Owen Sound 4-1 on Bears In Blue night at the Bayshore.
Knights’ goaltender Brendan Burke picked up his first career OHL win by rurning aside 28 of 29 Owen Sound shots on the evening, while rookie forward Sam Miletic picked up two goals in the win.
While they didn’t score as early as they did on Friday night, London drew first blood scoring with 13:35 having elapsed in the opening frame.
London rookie Sam Miletic would record his first career Ontario Hockey League goal, finding a way to get the puck past a sprawled out Michael McNiven to put the Knights up 1-0.
Miletic wouldn’t stop there though. With just 2:44 having been played in the 2nd, Miletic elected to shoot on a 2-on-1 rush and found the back of the net through McNiven’s five-hole, making it a 2-0 game.
Owen Sound would respond though, capitalizing on a Baywest Nissan Powerplay just halfway through the middle stanza to make it a 2-1 game.
With Liam Dunda parked in front of Knights’ goalie Brendan Burke, Thomas Schemitsch would put a puck on net the bounced in the air. Positioned well, Dunda knocked in the rebound out of mid-air to bring the Attack within one. Assistant captain Bryson Cianfrone would also register a helper on the play, which came at 10:48 of the frame.
London would restore their two goal lead before the 2nd period expired though.
With the Attack on a Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill, Mitch Marner would beat a screened McNiven on the blocker side to make it 3-1 at the 15:09 mark.
Owen Sound would fail to capitalize on a five minute major in the 3rd period, giving London the opportunity they needed to seal the win.
The visitors would do just that, finishing the scoring at the 15:33 mark of the 3rd period, taking advantage of yet another Attack Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill.
Christian Dvorak would score to make it 4-1, picking up garbage in the Attack crease, and icing the win for the Knights.
Liam Dunda was named the game’s mac Taylor Corporation 3rd Star of the Game for his effort in a one goal performance.
Mitch Marner was named the game’s 2nd star while Sam Miletic earned 1st star honours.
The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal finished at 29-26 in favour of the Attack.
Owen Sound will play their next four games on the road, starting with a trip to Hamilton to take on former Attack defenceman Connor Walters and the Bulldogs on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
The Attack’s next game at home doesn’t come until Saturday, Dec. 12 when they host the Sudbury Wolves in a 7:30pm puck drop.
