Attack fall at home
The Owen Sound Attack fell 4-3 in a shootout for the 2nd night in a row, this on home ice to the London Knights.
London got the scoring started in a relatively uneventful first period after Brett Welychka tipped home Julius Bergman’s point shot to give the Knights the lead on a powerplay goal.
Keenan Reynolds scored a win in his 1st OHL fight after taking on London’s Chris Martenet about halfway through the period.
The fight sparked the Attack who began to play with noticeably more jump, and they used that momentum to find the back of the net with just 2:21 remaining in the period. Holden Cook was the beneficiary of a cross ice feed from Daniel Milne and he made no mistake, scoring his 3rd goal of the year and tying the game up at one apiece.
Justin Brack picked up the secondary assist on the play that tilted the ice in the Attack’s favour heading into intermission.
Owen Sound was unable to continue that momentum in the early going of the middle frame, but Kyle Platzer and Milne hooked up on a nice drop pass that Milne pounded into the back of the net to give Owen Sound a 2-1 lead.
And while Owen Sound seemed to control the player in the 2nd, it was London who controlled the 3rd.
Goals from Brandon Crawley and Christian Dvorak in the final frame’s opening 10 minutes gave the Knights a 3-2 lead until a cannon from the point by Attack defender Chris Bigras squared things up at three.
For the 2nd night in a row, the game was destined for overtime and eventually a shootout.
While the Attack couldn’t score on the Rangers in Friday night’s shootout, Kyle Platzer dangled Knights goalie Michael Giugovaz out of the crease and was able to fire the puck into the top corner.
Despite Platzer’s goal though, two tallies from the Knights were enough to secure a 4-3 shootout victory for London.
Daniel Milne’s goal and assist were enough to earn him the Mac Taylor Corporations 1st star of the game. London’s Christian Dvorak was named the 2nd star of the game while Brett Welychka was the 3rd star.
Attack defender Damir Sharipzyanov was the Ryobi Power Tools Hardest Working Player of the Game.
The Attack won’t return to action until Saturday, Oct. 4 when they host the Guelph Storm at 7:30pm. Tickets for the game are available at the DJ’s Furniture Attack Box Office, by visiting www.attackhockey.com, or by calling (519)371-7452.
