Attack drop Thursday night contest in Barrie
The Owen Sound Attack fell 4-1 to the Barrie Colts on Thursday night, as the Attack’s powerplay failed to capitalize on any of their chances in the road loss.
Owen Sound found themselves down in the game’s 1st minute of play before sophomore forward Keenan Reynolds scored his first goal of the season, a goal that would be Owen Sound’s only marker of the evening.
The Colts would then roll for the rest of the game, largely on the back of netminder Mackenzie Blackwood’s performance in goal, an effort that saw him make a handful of game-saving stops.
Barrie jumped out to the early lead thanks to a goal by Brendan Lemieux just 55 seconds into the opening frame. Lemieux was able to get his stick on a point shot by import defenceman Julius Nattinen and fool Attack netminder Daniel Dekoning to put the Colts up 1-0.
The Attack wouldn’t waste time in striking back though.
With barely 90 seconds having elapsed since Barrie’s goal, Damir Sharipzyanov made a strong move down the Colts’ left hand side and got a shot off that bounced right onto the stick of 2nd year forward Keenan Reynolds. Reynolds would make no mistake, burying his 2nd career goal behind the out of position Blackwood.
It wouldn’t be until the 2nd period when Barrie restored their one goal lead, but when they did it would come on a short handed marker.
Justin Scott would pick up the tally, banging home a loose puck after the Colts failed to convert on a two-on-oh break just 2:30 into the 2nd period. Despite Barrie failing to score on the partial breakaway, Scott’s rebound goal would be enough to put the home side back up by a score of 2-1.
An extended bout of pressure for Barrie would then allow them to make it 3-1 off of the stick of Nattinen at the 6:04 mark of the middle stanza.
The Attack would fail to clear the zone after having two or three chances to do so, and the Colts would capitalize with a pretty passing play between Kevin Labanc and Rasmus Andersson before Nattinen scored from in front of the Owen Sound cage.
Barrie would put one more puck behind Dekoning before the 2nd period ended, scoring with just two tenths of a second left in the middle frame to go up 4-1.
The Colts’ 4th goal of the game would be courtesy of Labanc and would be the game’s final goal, as neither side would find the back of the net in the 3rd period.
The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal finished at 35 to 28 in favour of Owen Sound.
Barrie swept the Mac Taylor Corporation 3 Stars, with Mackenzie Blackwood, Kevin Labanc, and Julius Nattinen being named 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stars respectively.
The Attack are right back in action with a trip to Budweiser Gardens for a Friday night match up with the London Knights. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm and can be watched live on Rogers Local 53 or listened to on Kia of Owen Sound Terry’s Trailer Service Bear Radio on 560 CFOS.
Owen Sound’s next home game is Saturday, Nov. 28, the annual Bears In Blue fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. That game, which gets underway at 7:30pm as well, is also against the Knights.
Fans are reminded of the silent auction that will take place during the game, as well as the post game live jersey auction in support of the fight against men’s cancers. Tickets are available at the DJ’s Furniture Attack Box Office, or by calling 519-371-7452.
