Attack Drop 5-1 Decision In Ottawa

Our Attack were guests of the OHL Eastern Conference leading Ottawa 67’s Friday night.

The 67’s were enjoying a run where they had won four straight till losing to Belleville in OT Wednesday.  Our Attack winning their last two.

It took just 21 seconds for our Attack to take the early lead.  Captain Michael Halmo wired a 30 footer beating Ottawa goaltender Petr Mrazek for his 9th of the season from Jay Gilbert and Keevin Cutting.

The early lead was gone when an Attack defender turnover gave former Attack, Ben Dubois, a chance and he beat Attack netminder Jordan Binnington with a shorthanded goal at 9:28 of the first.  The 1-1 shorthanded goal, most likely the turning point of the game.

The 67’s have three high end forwards playing together in Tyler Toffoli, Sean Monahan and Shane Prince.  Might they be the best line in the league?  Adding defenceman Cody Ceci to that mix – they are big trouble for their opponents.

Starting at 1:26 of the second period, that group went on to contribute three power play goals to win the game.  Prince with two, Toffoli with one and Ceci with three assists.  Steven Janes finished the night with an empty net goal. 

Final score Ottawa 5 – Owen Sound 1.  Final shots on net were 33-26 Ottawa.  The Attack were 0 for 3 on the PP, while the 67’s were 3 for 6.
