Attack Down Whalers
The Owen Sound Attack took to the ice on Wednesday for their first Wednesday night game of the 2012/2013 season tonight against the Plymouth Whalers.
Jordan Binnington would make his 7th start of the season, in search of his 6th win while Rookie Riley Corbin would take to the pipes for the Whalers.
The Attack would trade chances early with the Whalers, but just over five minutes in, Daniel Catenacci would bank in his 4th goal of the season when Chris Bigras put the puck wide off the back boards.
The Attack would begin the second period on the penalty kill, successfully killing that off. Shortly thereafter Kurtis Gabriel would get the go ahead goal immediately after two incredible stops by Jordan Binnington on the Whalers. Timely saves can make or break a hockey game and Binnington certainly made his mark with that series of stops.
Just under two minutes later on the powerplay, Joseph Blandisi would put forth a fine individual effort and slide the puck past Riley Corbin to give the Attack a two goal lead. Penalty trouble would curse the Attack late in the period as Plymouth went to a lengthy 5 on 3, however; the Attack penalty killers, lead by Binnington would keep the Attack lead at two goals heading into the third period.
The third period would provide more dramatics with both teams once again trading penalties. Jordan Binnington would be the difference maker again as he frustrated the Whalers with point blank stop after point blank stop. The Whalers would pull within one on a Cody Payne goal, but that would be as close as they would get. Cameron Brace potted an empty netter and the Attack skated away with a hard fought 4-2 win.
The Centennial Windows Three Stars were:
1) Jordan Binnington 42 saves
2) Kurtis Gabriel 1G
3) Ryan Hartman 1A
