Attack Clinch 7th with 2-1 Win
Tonight marked the Owen Sound Attack’s second last home game of the year, a game that was originally supposed to be played on Wednesday, but was postponed due to poor weather. The Plymouth Whalers were at the Lumley Bayshore Community Centre for tonight’s tilt with the Attack. The Whalers sat right behind the Attack in the standings and 5 points back for 7th spot in the West. Before the game, the Attack honored former Owen Sound Plater, Shawn Krueger with the ceremonial puck drop.
The 1st period started off slow on the scoring front, but each team had lots of chances to convert, albeit unsuccessfully. Plymouth would score the first goal of the game on a Matt Mistele shot. The Attack would go into the first intermission down a goal.
The second period was a stalemate as both teams struggled to produce any offence. The Attack we unable to convert on 3 power play opportunities and could only register 8 shots in the period. They would go into the last intermission still down 1 goal and looking for a comeback to finish 7th and move to a point within six, one back of Saginaw.
The tides would turn for the boys from the bay as Kyle Hope would net his 22nd of the year on streak shot and a beauty screen from defensemen Chris Bigras. The Attack would continue to pour on the pressure, dominating the last period of the game. Kyle Hope would be the hero as his sniped a magnificent snapper from the high slot after a great play at the blue line from Thomas Schemitsch. Owen Sound would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game and the final would stand at 2-1.
