Attack Claw Past Rangers
The Attack hosted the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday night for what would be the teams’ fourth meeting this season. Owen Sound has been able to collect 4 points through the previous 3 games with a win and two overtime appearances. The Plan to Attack Hunger was in full effect again on Wednesday, where donations were being collected for the local food bank.
Brandon Hope would get the start for the Attack, while Matthew Greenfield got the call for the Rangers.
The scoring started early, as Holden Cook banged home the puck for his 11th goal of the season. Cook has already passed his scoring record from last year, tallying 24 points so far this campaign for the Bears. Kitchener was quick to respond, with Ryan MacInnis sliding the puck in after a good first save from Brandon Hope. The marker was good for MacInnis’ 8th on the season.
Gemel Smith put Owen Sound ahead again soon after in the second frame. The sniper has been hot this season, already recording 21 goals for the Attack.
The Attack were in tough after the Smith goal in the 2nd, having to kill off a big 5-on-3 penalty kill. The team was up for the task, as they shut down the Kitchener power play while also getting a quality scoring chance. Cook made a nice play to get the puck in the Attack zone and beat the Kitchener defenders down ice before getting pulled down in front of the net. He was rewarded a penalty shot, and made a nice deke, but could not find enough room around the pad of the opposing netminder.
The Attack dominated the rest of the period after the big kill, finishing it off with a buzzer beater from Jaden Lindo. Lindo has been producing for the Attack of late, putting another past Greenfield in the 3rd for the wingers’ first 2 goal game of the year.
The Lindo goal seemed to boost the Attack, as they came out hard in the 3rd, putting 2 more shots past the Kitchener goalie. The Attack continued to dominate until late in the 3rd, where Kitchener tried to rally with 2 goals of their own. Although the momentum was in the Rangers hands with 2 quick points, Brandon Hope and the Attack were able to shut the door for the remaining minutes of the game to preserve the 5-3 win at home.
